Established in 2015, Plovdiv Jazz Fest has quickly managed to become one of the most significant and eagerly anticipated events in Bulgaria’s artistic calendar. This is perhaps due to its relentless dedication to presenting it’s audience with the very best of the multicolored experience that is Jazz. This boutique musical adventure is now internationally recognized and as its beautifully crafted logo suggests: has long achieved global allure.
Throughout it’s relatively short but already substantial history, Plovdiv Jazz Fest has attracted some of the creme de la creme of international modern day Jazz. Such as Kurt Elling, Jan Garbarek, Dave Holland, Eliane Elias, Chris Potter, Jacob Carlson, Victoria Tolstoy, Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Richard Bona, Joshua Redman, Donny McCaslin, Jason Moran, David Lynx, Vlatko Stefanovski, Rosalia de Souza, Zuko 103 among others.
Part of the program were also recent projects from some of the highest caliber Bulgarian jazz musicians such as Hristo Yotsov, Theodosii Spassov, Hilda Kazasyan, Oktet Plovdiv. The festival has hosted numerous special events such as: a tribute to the legendary Bulgarian pioneers White, Green, Red, Four Ladies sing Jazz, Four Gents sing Jazz, as well as many other club concerts, jam sessions, exhibitions, lectures and master classes.
Plovdiv Jazz Fest is an independent initiative. Its main goals is to preserve and keep nourishing the existing jazz tradition in the city and to promote jazz culture in Bulgaria.
The festival is funded through private sponsorship and ticket sales. The event receives limited financial support from “Plovdiv 2019”, as it is a part of the official program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019.
Plovdiv Jazz Fest is realized by Blue Em as its sole organizer, in cooperation with the Municipality of Plovdiv.
