Psychoanalysis and jazz

Dr. Svetlozar Vasilev is a melophile, psychoanalyst, and associate professor. He is the creator of the Psychoanalysis and Cinema and an author of articles in the fields of child development, psychiatric health, and art. His day to day life is split between working with patients, teaching, and film criticism.

The book Mirror of Imagination: Psychoanalysis of the Film Experience (Colibri, 2019) is the result of a decade experience in discussing film through the unconscious. The book launch will be accompanied by a screening of the film Round Midnight by Bertrand Tavernier, starring Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon, François Cluzet and Martin Scorsese. Herbie Hancock won an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Score and the Dexter Gordon nomination for Best Actor is the first such nomination for a musician in the history of the Academy Awards.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the audience. Special guests will be psychologists Marina Angelova and Nadia Kozhuharova from the team behind Psychoanalysis and Film, who, together with Dr. Vasilev, will demonstrate their film analysis method.
